About
Small Crush began in Logan Hammon's bedroom when she was 13 years old, writing songs on her dad's old guitar and recording covers on garageband. In her sophomore year of high school, she found some friends in jazz band class to help fulfill her dream of playing her songs in a full band. Together the band began developing their indie rock sound by getting inspired by 90s alternative and early 2000s indie. In 2019, the band released their self-titled debut album on a local Bay Area label Asian Man Records, and a second full length “Penelope” in 2023. Since then, the band has supported artists like Hunny, Mom Jeans and Jeff Rosenstock out on tour. Through it all, the band has made the joy of playing music and having fun the most important thing.
Small crush began in the corners of my childhood bedroom with a cd player and a ukulele. Growing up in the 2000s i was obsessed with Hillary duff and Hannah Montana, seeing peoples dreams come true on reality television and making lip sync videos with my sister. My dad was always playing guitar and singing songs about rock lawns and beer can chicken. All these things gave me the courage to try to write my own songs. I wrote poems, learned Adele on piano and improvised on my saxophone. I went from uke to acoustic guitar , electric and bass. Learning all my favorite songs I studied how they were built and took off from there. I remember one night I came home from a concert (Mitski, Elvis Depressedly, botttom of the hill 2016) and felt so inspired that I wrote 5 songs in one night. This later became my first EP blush.
I was playing in jazz band in high school and met my guitarist Jackson and at the time bass player Tommy. I worked on the songs with them, played shows around town and released Blush. Our friend Joey was working in the Asian Man records garage one day and played our EP for Mike Park…The Ska legend who released some of my favorite bands and is the king of DIY. We made a full length album “Small Crush” and released it with Mike on AMR in 2019. I never imagined these songs I wrote would take me farther than California one day. It felt like everyone really believed in us which kept us motivated to do whatever we could to make it happen,
Our first tour was with Peach Kelli Pop and we did a little west coast run that was nothing but fun. I got 2 speeding tickets the first day we set off because I was so excited. lol. We played as much as we could until the pandemic hit and put things on hold for awhile. When it was clear to play shows we had an amazing come back show at Cornerstone in Berkeley with our buddies carpool tunnel. It felt unreal to play a show again and it made coming back to music something we could never take for granted. We got booked for some more tours with Hunny and Hot flash Heat wave that took us cross country. I’ve gotten to meet so many cool people and have kept long distance friendships alive. Its crazy that people will let you come sleep on their floor AND make you breakfast sometimes. I’m so grateful for anyone who’s took us in over the years. We played with Mom Jeans, jeff rosenstock, boyscott, chase petra and even had our own national tour the years to come. Every tour is so special and unique in its own way i call it tour magic. I love playing shows and its the best job in the world to do it every night.
